AFI supports, promotes, and advocates for farmers and food producers on the East End of Long Island. Through education and promotion, we strive to ensure that consumers enjoy healthy, local food, and that consumers understand the importance of a thriving regional food system in which local producers are supported. AFI’s programs include  a commercial kitchen incubator for the growth of local food businesses and the production of value-added goods; a farm to food pantry program and stet-to-farmer training program for young and beginning farmers. AFI is developing new programs including the operation of a

We are looking for someone with a marketing and/or communications background to engage the local community through our website, monthly newsletter, social media, and other outreach materials. The candidate will also be involved in event planning, fundraising, and some administrative duties. She/he will be ready to partake in the varied tasks of a small non-profit and will be excited to share AFI’s mission and vision with the community.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Is knowledgeable and passionate about local food
  • Has strong communication skills in both oral and written formats
  • Has significant social media experience
  • Has experience with and an eye for graphic design
  • Is able to work independently in a flexible environment
  • Has experience with Microsoft suite, Adobe PhotoShop, and can learn other computer programs quickly
  • Has a Bachelors degree in communications, marketing, or a related subject
  • Has experience managing press relations


This opportunity is for someone who cares about local food. The position will provide the chance to work closely with farmers and food professionals, network within the East End food community, and be a part of a non-profit that is growing quickly.
