Ganei Beantown - Beantown Jewish Gardens invites you to the 5th annual Boston Jewish Food Conference
The annual Boston Jewish Food Conference brings together community members from all over New England to foster new connections in the Jewish community by utilizing food and agriculture to discuss the intersections of justice, sustainability, and culture against a background of Jewish traditions and contemporary life. Join us for all or part of the day as we examine the people, places and systems that supply us with food to nourish our bodies and whole selves.
All are welcome! Childcare and volunteering opportunities available! Pre-registration highly encouraged, rates go up on March 26.
The day includes multiple workshops (in the kitchen and classroom) and culminates in a community Shuk (marketplace), featuring dinner prepared by conference participants, do-it-yourself activities, advocacy opportunities, tabling by community organizations and our silent auction. Our focus this year is on the whole food system, and how in the age of industry, feeding millions and often lacking in transparency, we are pieces of this great puzzle. We’ll look at some of the inputs, outputs and ramifications of our food choices as we nourish our bodies and whole selves, and work to feed the world in a just and sustainable manner.
Sample workshops include:
- Which was factory farmed first: the chicken or the egg?
- Using Our Forks to Reduce Our Carbon Footprint
- Sourcing your Simcha (celebration) Sustainably
- Learn How to Dine Out with Your Values
- Farmworker Labor Rights: Who picks the food that we eat?
- Transparency in the Fish Supply Chain
- Labelling foods containing GMOs in MA: A Case Study in Judaism, Ethics, and New Technology
Plus, join our chef educators in the kitchen to prepare our meal of Borscht, Mujadra, and local Wheat Berry Salad.
