Columbia Land Conservancy and Dutchess Land Conservancy's Down to Earth Workshop: Climate Change and Farming in the Hudson Valley. It will take place Saturday, November 4th from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. at the Cary Institute for Ecosystem Studies (2801 Sharon Turnpike, Millbrook, NY 12545).
Farmers in the Hudson Valley are already feeling the effects of climate change. This workshop will detail how climate change is predicted to impact the future of farming in our region and federal programs that provide relief to farmers affected by natural disaster.
- Dr. Jennifer Phillips from the Bard College Center for Environmental Policy will detail how climate change impacts local famers
- Assemblymember Didi Barrett will join us to discuss carbon farming in New York State
- Samantha Levy from American Farmland Trust will describe the new Greener Fields report
- Matthew Forrest from the USDA Farm Service Agency will introduce Federal Emergency Disaster Assistance Programs, and
- A panel of famers including Jody Bolluyt of Roxbury Farm, Ben Dobson of Stone House Grain, and Will Yandik of Green Acres will explain how they have been preparing their farms for climate change.
